Rhett Miller’s past solo albums have been a bit more on the safe, pop side than the albums with his band, The Old 97’s. They are usually overwrought with some cheesiness and too many ballads. The Dreamer sounds more like the alt country band than his past solo albums. These songs are catchy blasts of rock ‘n roll with crafty lyrics and wouldn’t be out of place on the past few Old 97’s albums.
