It’s only June, but Oddisee’s People Hear What They See is the best hip-hop album so far this year. Oddisee is a member of with Diamond District and yU and has produced tracks for Talib Kweli and Little Brother. He’s released a number of other albums and mixtapes, including last year’s mostly instrumental Rock Creek Park, but People Hear What They See is his official debut solo rap album. The beats are tight and utilize unique samples. And the album is full intelligent lyrics that skewer some stand lines and themes in place of original thoughts and ideas. Even one track, “Let It Go,” addresses the result of being complacent. He keeps the beats and the lyrical topics from being repetitive on this solid debut album.
