Tinariwen is a collective of singers, songwriters, and musicians from the Sahara Desert region of Mali. Their music is guitar-driven, but with the percussive style of West African music. Their previous albums have been led by their electric guitars. On Tassili, the band’s fifth album, the music is acoustic based, but still equally as captivating. There are some fitting guest spots from Tunde Adebimpe, Nels Cline, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who seem to seamlessly meld into the ensemble, but Tinariwen creates unbounded and enchanting music on their own.
