For their self-titled debut album, Widowspeak put together shadowy, slow rock that has a mysteriously beautiful quality. The New York trio is comprised of two guitarists and a drummer, but the band eerily fleshes out their sound. The music is both delicate and cavernous. It’s enchanting, but with hints of something darker lurking beneath the surface. There are aspects of shoegaze and occasional throwbacks to early rock and roll in there, but Molly Hamilton’s vocals transcend the musical haze and give the music an enticing quality.
