Stephen Malkmus returns with his fifth post-Pavement album. His adroit songwriting and enigmatic guitar skills are apparent throughout this album. Produced by Beck, the music volleys between the raucous sound Malkmus is more associated with and a few songs that are more mellow. Supported by the Jicks (and this is, sadly, Janet Weiss’s last album as part of the band), the songs have a diverse and deft sound.
