Prom, the second album by the New York trio, Grooms, is impossible to pigeonhole and nearly as difficult to describe. It’s more melodic than noise rock, more focused than experimental music, but too raucous to be considered pop. Each song has its own unique feel and sound. Skipping from track to track is like finding a new path in a labyrinth, delving deeper into a mysterious core. Most of the album is aggressive, guitar-driven rock with washed out vocals. Working through a maze of fuzz and harmonies, Prom is an exceptional album of inventive rock.
