New Releases – 10 February 2009

Here are The Wheel’s Still In Spin’s suggested new releases for this week.

Dan Auerbach – Keep It Hid | CD Vinyl MP3

This is the first solo album from the guitar playing half of The Black Keys. This album has a fleshed out sound with more layers and genre-bouncing than The Black Keys are known for. There is the expected blues-rock feel to some tracks, but the album opens with an intimate acoustic track and then ventures into psychedelic and classic rock stylings. At times, Auerbach even sounds like he is trying to conjure CCR without sounding too much like the band. This album is not as assertive as The Black Keys’ releases, but it’s more diverse.

Esoteric – Serve of Suffer | CD MP3

This is Esoteric’s first rapless album. It puts together solid, original beats with a diverse amount of samples. In fact, there are over 1500 samples in these 23 tracks. There’s very little rapping or vocals. And the album is a great and intriguing listen. And then, at the end of the album, there is a short pop song called “Boba Fett Thrills Me Still” that fills its 1-minute-and-44-seconds with an addictive melody.
