On the band’s third release, singer Antony Hegarty’s vibrato voice sounds tender, touching, and stout. The symphonic arrangements add depth to these emotional musical explorations. The melodies and orchestra combine to make these songs of longing and transcension more appealing.
Andrew Bird – Noble Beast | CD
Andrew Bird is a unique musician. He mixes his classically trained violin playing with indie folk production, singer songwriter melodic stylings, and lyrics that utilize a near-labyrinthine vocabulary. The result, similar to 2007’s Armchair Apocrypha, is an excellent example of chamber pop.

Justin Vernon’s first release as Bon Iver received wide acclaim in 2007 – when he self-released the album – and last year – when Jagjaguwar released it to much wider distribution. Finally, 4 new songs have been released. Each of the tracks on the EP contain the gracious warmth that typified For Emma, Forever Ago.

This is a strong sophomore release from the moniker used by the actor Jason Schwartzman. Like his movies, there is a depth disguised as seriousness in these catchy indie pop songs. The only drawback of the album is his overuse of lyrical repetition, but he consistently finds a good hook before repeating certain lines.
Otis Gibbs – Grandpa Walked the Picket Line | CD

Otis Gibbs made this album available from CD Baby in the last part of 2008. Today it sees wider distribution. Like a modern-day, gritty Guthrie or a Midwestern Bragg, Gibbs offers anthemic characterization of “Everyday People.” This folk record is full of songs about dreams, regrets, wandering, civil disobedience, and unions.

The San Francisco based band originally released this debut album in 2007, but now it sees a wider distribution. The seven-piece band has an expansive folk rock sound that drips with country and indie influences. It is a great find as it now has national distribution.
